Card Betting Sites UK: Debit and Credit Card Apps We Tested

Rating methodology: How we rate betting apps · Last checked: September 2026 · Reviewer: [AUTHOR]

Every one of the 12 non GamStop betting apps we tested takes a card. Visa works at all but one, Mastercard at all but one, so one scheme or the other always goes through. Past that the detail matters: three apps also take credit cards, which UK-licensed bookmakers cannot, two run Maestro, and three settle in euros rather than pounds.

The debit-card side of this market is settled. Every UK guide points at the same licensed bookmakers and repeats the same rule, that credit cards were banned in 2020. So the useful question this page answers is the one those guides cannot: where credit cards still work, what they cost, and which schemes each offshore app actually took at the cashier. The data comes from the live payment screens on funded accounts, the same source behind how these apps handle payments across the site.

Key takeaways

  • A card works at all 12 apps. Visa runs at 11 (not Runa, where a Revolut card covers it); Mastercard at 11 (not SpellWin). One scheme always goes through.
  • Three apps take credit cards (Spinpolo, Daytonaspin, WinWinter), which UKGC bookmakers cannot since the 2020 ban. UK banks usually treat a credit-card gambling deposit as a cash advance, with a fee and interest from day one.
  • Maestro is rare and fading, listed at two apps (Legionbet, LuckyWave) and being retired by Mastercard.
  • Withdrawals return to the same card you deposited with, quoted at 1 to 3 business days. None is an instant-payout site.
  • Three apps run euro cashiers (Basswin, Spinpolo, SpellWin), so a sterling card is converted.
  • These apps are offshore: lighter sign-up, but no GAMSTOP and no Alternative Dispute Resolution.

Our card testing, and what we recorded

We funded a real account on each app with a real card where the app accepted one, and took every figure from the live cashier. For cards specifically, that meant recording:

  • Schemes offered: Visa, Mastercard and Maestro, and whether a separate credit-card option appeared.
  • Deposit flow: whether a 3-D Secure step ran, and how fast the deposit cleared.
  • Withdrawal: the same-card rule, the minimums, and the payout window the cashier actually quotes.
  • Currency: whether the cashier settled in GBP or EUR.

Each app also ran across the same six devices, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 2 XL, Galaxy S25, Galaxy A17, iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 11, with bet placement timed at 19 to 21 seconds per app. How these checks feed the overall score is set out in our how we rate betting apps guide.

LuckyWave Yes Yes Yes No Yes GBP

Points from the data:

  • Visa runs at 11 of 12. The exception is the Runa betting app, where a standard Visa debit is not a direct option; a Visa works there through a Revolut card instead.
  • Mastercard runs at 11 of 12. The exception is SpellWin.
  • Maestro is rare. Only Legionbet and LuckyWave listed it. More on why below.
  • Credit cards appear at three apps: Spinpolo, Daytonaspin and WinWinter. That is the offshore difference, covered in section 6.
  • SpellWin card note. Our records list Visa for SpellWin, but the cashier we captured showed bank and crypto rails without a card row, so we have marked it unconfirmed pending a re-check rather than state it as certain.

Visa, Mastercard and Maestro

  • Visa and Mastercard are the backbone. Both are debit schemes here, and between them they cover every app, so if one is declined the other usually is not. A debit deposit is treated as a normal purchase by your bank, and it is the cheapest, simplest way to fund an account.
  • Maestro is on its way out generally, not just on these apps. Mastercard stopped issuing Maestro on new cards in Europe from mid-2023, so newer accounts will not have one, though existing Maestro cards keep working until they expire. Among the apps we tested, only Legionbet and LuckyWave listed Maestro.
  • Revolut as a card route. Revolut issues Visa and Mastercard debit cards, so a Revolut card works wherever those schemes are accepted. This matters most at Runa, where a Revolut card is the practical way to use Visa. Revolut is accepted, as a named option or through its card, at eight of the 12 apps. Its own in-app gambling block is the setting to check if a payment is refused.

Credit card betting, and why it is offshore only

On 14 April 2020 the UK Gambling Commission banned credit-card gambling, adding Licence Condition 6.1.2 to the LCCP, after a review linked gambling on borrowed money with harm. Every UKGC-licensed operator dropped credit cards then and has not brought them back. Offshore apps sit outside that rule, so some still accept them. In our testing, three did: WinWinter, Daytonaspin and Spinpolo, each listing a credit card option in the cashier.

Before you reach for one, there is a cost that is easy to miss. UK banks generally treat a gambling deposit made on a credit card as a cash advance rather than a purchase. That usually means a cash-advance fee and interest that starts from the transaction date with no interest-free period, so a credit-card deposit can cost you more than its face value before you place a single bet. The exact fee and rate depend on your card issuer, so check your card’s terms first. You also lose the practical simplicity of a debit payment, and the reason the UK regulator stepped in, spending money you do not have, applies just as much on an offshore app as a UK one.

Currency and fees

Most apps run GBP cashiers, so a sterling card deposit goes through at face value. Three do not: Basswin, Spinpolo and SpellWin run euro cashiers. A sterling card paying into a euro account is converted at your bank’s rate, and some card issuers add a non-sterling transaction fee on top. It is usually small, but it is worth knowing the deposit is a currency conversion rather than a like-for-like payment. If you use one of the euro apps regularly, a card or account that does not charge for non-sterling spending saves the fee.

Check exchange rates and transaction fee policies on allbettingapps.

Minimums and card withdrawals

Card minimums and payout times from the cashiers we captured. Where a figure was not on the screen we tested, it is left out rather than guessed.

App Card deposit min Card withdrawal min Withdrawal time
Legionbet £20 £20 1 to 3 business days, free
Runa £15 (Mastercard) £20 1 to 3 business days, free
Basswin €20 €100 1 to 3 business days, free
Gambiva £20 £100 1 to 3 business days, free
Beonbet £20 £100 1 to 3 business days, free

Two things stand out. The Legionbet betting app has the lowest card withdrawal floor at £20, where the Gambiva betting site and Beonbet sit at £100, so you are not forced to leave a large balance to cash out. And withdrawals run 1 to 3 business days on every app, card or otherwise, so none of these is an instant-payout site. The apps not listed above follow the same pattern: deposits from around £15 to £20, free card withdrawals quoted at 1 to 3 business days.

Depositing by card, step by step

The card flow is the same across the apps that take one.

  1. Register and open the cashier. Sign-up takes an email and password; there is no card check to create the account.
  2. Choose the card option and enter your card number, expiry and security code. On a euro app, note the amount shows in euros.
  3. Approve the payment. Your bank may run a 3-D Secure step in your banking app. Deposits confirm near-instantly once approved.
  4. If it is declined, the block is usually on your side. UK banks and Revolut let you switch gambling payments off in-app, and that setting refuses a deposit before it reaches the cashier.
Follow simple steps to complete card deposits on allbettingapps.

How to withdraw to a card

Withdrawals return to the card you deposited with.

  1. Open the cashier and choose withdraw, then the card option.
  2. Enter the amount, at or above the app’s minimum (£20 at Legionbet, up to £100 at Gambiva and Beonbet).
  3. Confirm. The app quotes 1 to 3 business days to process, and a first withdrawal may take longer if the app runs a one-time identity check.
  4. The money lands back on the card that funded the account. Credit-card deposits at the three apps that take them may not refund to the credit card, so check the cashier before relying on it.

Offers: what a card deposit gets you

The welcome offers here are not card-specific; where an app has one, a card deposit qualifies like any other method. What matters is whether the offer applies to sports at all, because several advertise a headline that is casino-only.

  • Genuine sports welcome: Beonbet (100% up to £150, gentle 5x wagering), SpellWin (100% free bet up to €100, 5x), Basswin (150%), Gambiva (up to €3,500, 15x). Legionbet and LuckyWave give free bets after a qualifying bet.
  • Steep terms: Prestige Spin runs 200/150/100% tiers, but each at 45x wagering with a 96-hour window.
  • Reload, not welcome: Runa offers up to £100 weekly on sports.
  • No sports welcome: Wildzy, Spinpolo, Daytonaspin and WinWinter advertise casino slots packages that do not apply to sports betting, with cashback and VIP perks instead.

A credit-card deposit is a poor way to chase a bonus in particular, because the cash-advance cost eats into any value before you have met the wagering.

Safety and card declines

Because these apps are offshore, there is no UKGC protection behind a card payment, so the sensible controls are the ones on your side. The most common reason a card is refused is a gambling block, set in your banking app or in Revolut, which stops the payment before it reaches the app. That is a feature, not a fault, and it is the first thing to check on a decline.

A few app-side points from testing. Some apps ask for camera access at withdrawal to photograph ID, which is normal for offshore operators; Basswin and Prestige Spin are examples. The apps that ship an Android APK (Legionbet, Basswin, Runa, LuckyWave, Prestige Spin) deliver it from the operator’s own site rather than Google Play, so take the file only from the official site, as there is no store listing to check a fake against.

Understand card security protocols and decline reasons on allbettingapps.

If your card is refused: other methods

If a card will not go through and the block is not the cause, the same apps offer other routes. Every one of the 12 is also a crypto betting site, so crypto is always available. Eight are betting sites with Revolut, either named or through its card, and nine are open banking betting sites that take a bank transfer. Five are betting sites that accept Google Pay and three are betting sites with Apple Pay, both wrapping a card behind a wallet.

Card betting apps versus UKGC bookmakers

The card difference against a UK book comes down to credit cards and checks.

Point UKGC bookmakers The card apps here
Debit cards Visa and Mastercard Visa or Mastercard at all 12
Credit cards Banned since April 2020 Accepted at three apps
Sign-up checks Full ID before betting or cash-out Email and password, no ID at deposit
Withdrawal time Often 24 to 48 hours plus checks 1 to 3 business days quoted
GAMSTOP self-exclusion Mandatory Not integrated
Dispute recourse UKGC plus ADR Offshore licence only
Currency Sterling GBP at most, euros at three

The credit-card option and lighter checks come at the cost of UK regulatory protection. There is no GAMSTOP integration and no Alternative Dispute Resolution route.

Credit cards, blocks and staying in control

The card angle carries its own responsibility point. There is no GAMSTOP here, no enforced deposit limit and no affordability check, so the brakes are yours to set, and three of these apps will let you fund an account with a credit card, which UK rules deliberately stop. The regulator banned credit-card gambling because staking money you do not have makes losses harder to absorb, and that logic does not change because an app is offshore.

The most reliable brake sits at your bank: a gambling block in your banking app or in Revolut stops a card deposit at source, credit or debit. If gambling is starting to cost you more than money, GamCare runs a free 24/7 helpline and BeGambleAware offers self-assessment and live chat, both confidential.

Card betting apps: quick answers

Which betting apps take Visa and Mastercard?

Visa works at 11 of the 12 we tested, the exception being Runa, where it works via a Revolut card. Mastercard works at 11 of 12, the exception being SpellWin.

Which apps accept a credit card?

Three: WinWinter, Daytonaspin and Spinpolo. UK-licensed bookmakers cannot, following the 2020 ban, which is why this is an offshore-only option.

Is a credit-card deposit more expensive?

Usually yes. UK banks generally treat it as a cash advance, so expect a fee and interest from day one, with the exact cost set by your card issuer. A debit card avoids that.

Do any apps take Maestro?

Only Legionbet and LuckyWave. Maestro is being retired by Mastercard, so newer cards will not have it.

Are the accounts in pounds or euros?

Most are in GBP. Basswin, Spinpolo and SpellWin run euro cashiers, so a sterling card is converted.

Why does my card keep getting declined?

Usually a gambling block in your banking app or Revolut, not the app. Switch it off, noting any cooling-off delay, and try again.

How long do card withdrawals take?

Every app quotes 1 to 3 business days, card or otherwise. None is an instant-payout site.
